Sikaflex-260 N is a single-component multi-purpose adhesive for the assembly of windows and windshields , but also for large body components in the manufacture of transport vehicles.

It is suitable for bonding coated metals , glass-fibre reinforced synthetic materials, ceramic materials and plastics.
Sikaflex-260 N has a very long open time and ensures safe application even in hot and humid weather conditions.

Areas of application

Sikaflex-260 N is suitable for various applications such as panel bonding and glass or windshield bonding in the transport sector.
Suitable substrates are wood, metals and specifically aluminum (also anodized), steel sheets (also phosphated, chrome-plated and galvanized parts), metal primers and lacquers (2-component system), ceramic materials and plastic/synthetic materials.

This product is for use by experienced professionals only.
Tests with common substrates and under local conditions should be carried out to ensure good adhesion and compatibility of materials.

Application

1. Sikaflex-260 N can be used between 5°C and 35°C, but take into account a change in reactivity and application properties depending on the temperature.
   The optimum temperature of the substrate and glue is between +15°C and +25°C.
2. Note that viscosity increases at low temperatures.
   For easy application, condition the glue at room temperature before starting work.
3. To obtain a uniform layer of glue, it is recommended to apply the glue bead in a triangular shape.
4. Sikaflex-260 N can be applied with a manual, compressed air or electric gun.
5. Open time is significantly shorter in hot and humid climates.
6. The parts to be glued must be joined within the open time.
7. Do not join any more pieces once the glue has formed a skin.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can the product be painted after curing?
   Yes, SikaFlex-260 N can be coated with compatible paints (without silicones) provided that a suitable paint system is used.
2. Can it be used at very low temperatures (e.g. < 5°C)?
   This is not recommended. Below ~5°C, viscosity increases sharply and polymerization becomes very slow, which can compromise adhesion.
3. Is it resistant to fuels and oils?
   It is temporarily resistant to some fuels, mineral oils and greases, but it is not a lasting resistance to prolonged exposures or harsh solvents.
4. What is the shelf life once the cartridge is opened?
   Once opened, the sealant begins to react with moisture in the air. It is best to consume the remainder quickly. Unopened storage is guaranteed for up to ~9 months at <25°C.
5. Is it suitable for structural applications (heavy loads)?
   Yes, within reasonable limits, thanks to its mechanical characteristics (tensile strength, shear, elongation capacity). However, for structures subjected to extreme loads, it must be verified by calculation and appropriate testing.
6. What if the putty starts to “skin” before the parts are assembled?
   In this case, it is necessary to clean, remove this surface sealant or resume the application (do not assemble until a skin has formed). It is essential to respect the open time and apply quickly.
