  • Laying marble and other natural stones, provided they are not sensitive to water.

SikaCeram-290 StarLight can be used indoors and outdoors, on floors and walls, on the following substrates:

  • Cement and gypsum based support
  • Existing healthy ceramic tiles or stone, paint, indoors
  • Existing healthy PVC sheet floors, linoleum and vinyl tiles, indoors.

SikaCeram-290 StarLight is suitable for applications requiring high performance, such as:

  • Swimming pools
  • Installation on heated floors (hydraulic and electrical systems)
  • Industrial and high-traffic floors
  • Facades
  • Spot bonding of polystyrene, polyurethane foam, rock wool or glass wool insulation panels

Application

  1. SikaCeram-290 StarLight is applied using a notched trowel.
  2. The amount of product should be sufficient to completely coat the back of the tiles.
  3. The tiles must be laid on freshly applied adhesive, exerting adequate pressure to ensure complete and uniform contact with the adhesive and therefore optimum adhesion.
If a film appears to form on the surface, the adhesive has been left unused for too long; if this happens, immediately remove the adhesive layer with a trowel, discard this material and apply a fresh coat of SikaCeram-290 StarLight adhesive.
  4. Avoid application in direct sunlight and/or in strong winds/drafts.
  5. SikaCeram-290 StarLight is specifically designed as an ideal product for laying non-absorbent tiles, indoors, without any limitations as to tile dimensions or substrate.
Outdoors, it is preferable to lay non-absorbent tiles of a size less than 10000 cm2 (e.g. 100 x 100 cm) for floors, and 7000 cm2 (e.g. 80 x 80 cm) for walls without the aid of mechanical fixing.
These limits are valid for cement-based, non-heating supports.
  6. When laying tiles larger than 900 cm² (e.g. 30 x 30 cm), it is always recommended to use the double-glue installation technique.

Consumption

Consumption depends on the surface profile and roughness of the substrate, the size of the tiles and the installation technique (one-sided or double-sided gluing).
As an indication, in kilograms of powder per m²:

  • Small tiles/6 mm notched trowel: ~ 1.3 kg/m²
  • Normal tiles/8 mm notched trowel: ~ 1.6 kg/m²
  • Large tiles/Notched trowel 10 mm: ~ 2.0 kg/m²
