Sika Boom-551 Multiposition is a self-expanding, single-component polyurethane foam for application with a gun.
Its special formulation, combined with the safety valve , allows for multi-position use (application at any angle).
EC 1 PLUS label: very low VOC emissions.

Areas of application

The product is designed to:

• Insulation and filling of cavities and voids.
• Filling the joints around window and door frames.

Application

1. When used for bonding vertical/horizontal building elements, they must be supported until the product has developed sufficient force.
2. Shake the aerosol can well at least 20 times before use.
3. Repeat the shaking after long interruptions during use.
4. After shaking the can, remove the cap from the Sika Boom-551 Multiposition can as well as the ring cover on top.
5. Screw Sika Boom- 551 Multiposition onto the thread of the application gun.
   The amount of extruded expanding foam can be adjusted by applying more or less pressure to the trigger of the gun or by using the flow adjustment screw of the application gun.
6. Fill the deep joints in several layers.
7. Allow each layer to expand and harden sufficiently before wetting it again with water for the application of the next layer.
8. Only partially fill the gaps/cavities as the foam expands during hardening.
   Small spaces can be filled using an extension tube, although this will reduce the flow rate of the foam.
9. Do not remove the can from the application gun unless it is completely empty.
   Premature removal could result in foam splashing.
10. Clean the application gun with Sika Boom Cleaner after use.
    Removing the can without thorough cleaning with Sika Boom Cleaner will damage the application gun.

1. Can Sika Boom-551 foam be used outdoors?
   Yes, it is suitable for outdoor use, but it is imperative to protect the hardened foam from UV rays with paint, coating or sealant.
2. Can this foam be used to fix a window?
   Yes, foam is suitable for sealing and stabilizing, but it does not replace mechanical fixings. It improves insulation and support, but does not provide structural support.
3. How long does it take for the foam to harden completely?
   It becomes cuttable after 30–40 minutes, but complete hardening takes approximately 12 to 24 hours depending on the humidity.
4. Does the foam continue to expand long after application?
   The expansion is controlled. It swells mainly in the first 10–15 minutes and then stabilizes quickly.
5. Is it possible to paint the foam after it has dried?
   Yes, hardened foam can be painted and sanded.
6. Does it adhere to wet surfaces?
   It adheres even on slightly damp surfaces, but not on soaked or dripping surfaces.
7. How much foam can be produced with one can?
   Depending on application conditions, one can can produce 20 to 25 litres of expanding foam.
8. Is the foam fire-resistant?
   The foam is not classified as fire-resistant. For applications requiring fire resistance, use a fire-retardant/fire-resistant PU foam.
9. Can a large void be filled?
   Yes, but it is recommended to work in several layers, slightly dampening between each one.
10. Is it compatible with polystyrene?
    Yes, unlike some generic foams, it does not degrade expanded or extruded polystyrene.
