Refractory-Mix M40 is a ready-to-use refractory mortar that also has a faster setting time than a traditional mortar.

Features

  • It can be used for masonry and pointing of chimneys, open fires, barbecues, flue liners, or as a coating for open fires.

Instructions for use:

  1. Work only on a clean surface, moistened if necessary.
  2. For masonry, REFRACTAIRE-Mix M40 must be mixed with 15% to 20% water, i.e., approximately 3.75 L to 5 L of water on 25 kg of product.
  3. For grouting, REFRACTAIRE-Mix M40 must be mixed with 10% to 15% water, i.e. approximately 2.5 L to 3.75 L of water on 25 kg of product.
  4. After a few days of hardening, it is gradually heated.

Consumption :

  • Masonry/plastering: ± 1.8 kg/mm/m² in powder form
  • Seals: ± 250 g/linear meter

Usage time:

max. 45 min.

Mixing ratio:

  • Masonry/plastering: ± 3.75L to 5L of water per 25kg bag (15 to 20%)
  • Seals: ± 2.5L to 3.75L of water per 25 kg bag (10 to 15%)

5 kg and 25 kg: Grey-brown.

  1. What is the maximum temperature that Refractory-Mix M40 can withstand?
    The mortar can withstand temperatures of approximately 1250°C, making it suitable for most domestic fireplaces, ovens, barbecues and chimneys.
  2. Can it be used to bond refractory bricks?
    Yes, that's the main use of the M40. It offers excellent adhesion to all refractory bricks and ceramic materials.
  3. Can the M40 be used outdoors?
    Yes, provided that it is protected from direct rain and that the structure is not exposed to freeze/thaw cycles in a wet state.
  4. Is it compatible with a pizza oven?
    Yes, it is very suitable for assembling the vault, walls and joints of a pizza or bread oven, provided that it is heated gradually.
  5. Should we add additives (Compaktuna, lime, sand…)?
    No, the mortar is already formulated to withstand heat. You just need to add the recommended amount of water.
  6. How long should you wait before lighting a fire?
    It is advisable to wait 48 to 72 hours for complete drying, then gradually increase the temperature over several hours.
  7. Can this mortar be used to coat a surface?
    Yes, for small areas. For thicker coatings or large surfaces, it is best to use a dedicated refractory coating.
  8. Is the mortar resistant to smoke or hot gases?
    Yes, it is designed to withstand heat, flames, hot gases and soot.
