A little information about road fonts.

Melting is a mixture of carbon and iron that differs from steel in its carbon content.

In steel, the carbon rate is less than 1% while in melting it is commonly in the order of 4%, it can even go up to 6.67% which is the saturation threshold.

The addition of carbon lowers the melting point of the metal and makes it more fluid. This makes it easier to give the metal complex shapes.

The grey cast iron

When cooling the molten metal, the carbon crystallizes into long, narrow graphite slats to give grey cast iron that has good resistance to compression and abrasion, but has the disadvantage of being brittle.

Produced more economically than steel, grey cast iron is widely used as moulded parts, but also as plates to cover the eyes on stormwater and wastewater systems.

In most cases, these cast iron looks break down into two parts, a more or less wide frame with a U-shaped throat, and a square or round pad with a sub-face T-shape.

By placing the pad on the frame, the two U and T shapes form a natural siphon that prevents the re-smelling of bad odours.

The grey cast iron looks are lighter and more economical, but cannot be used on heavily circulated lanes, they find their place in green space, at the foot of the wall or in pedestrian walkways.

Ductile melting

To improve melting resistance, melters add magnesium to the casting pouch, which turns these graphite slats into nodules: GS (Spheroidal Graphite cast) or ductile cast.

This treatment gives the melting greater elasticity and above all greater resistance.

This material is widely used for looking covers for the road that can easily support the passage of cars and trucks.

Melting resistance to rust

These lids and road looks are usually covered with tar-based surface protection, but this coating is rarely thick, so that, when weathered, they rust quickly.

However, this rust does not alter the strength of the product.

Melting can be repainted with oil products.
