Sikafloor-316 - Sealing Coat - Sika

Sikafloor-316 is a transparent , glossy , two-component sealant based on polyurea technology and with low VOC content.

Features

  • Based on polyurea technology
  • Low odor
  • Good UV resistance, does not yellow
  • Contains UV inhibitors
  • Easy to clean
  • Good scratch resistance
  • Good chemical resistance

Areas of application

Transparent and glossy sealing layer for Sikafloor epoxy and elastic polyurethane floor coatings.

Application

  1. Before mixing, check the homogeneity of component A, then add component A to component B and mix for 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
  2. After mixing components A and B, 4% (by weight) of Spheriglass 75 - 150 μm (200 g per 5 kg) must be added.
  3. This increases roughness, improves wetting and adhesion on Sika decorative floor coatings and breaks up the surface appearance, concealing irregularities in the substrate or epoxy resin.
  4. Check with a spatula that the mixture does not contain lumps or product buildup.
  5. To ensure proper mixing, pour the mixed product into a clean container and mix briefly.
  6. Avoid mixing for too long and too quickly in order to minimize air occlusion.
Use a lint-free nylon roller with approximately 10 mm long bristles and a paint grid to apply Sikafloor-316.
  7. Place the grid in the bucket and saturate the roll by rolling it over the grid.
  8. Then apply the product evenly and continuously to the surface, using a cross-roller according to the consumption indicated.
  9. Never pour or roll the product onto the support directly from the bucket without using the paint grid.
  10. Divide the area to be treated into several zones according to a 5 kg kit in order to control consumption.
A 25cm pile roller will absorb approximately 0.3 - 0.5 kg of product.
  11. Pour a small amount of the mixture into a small bucket and spread the mixture over the peripheral areas using a brush or a small roller (10 mm long bristles).
Do not work by progressing too quickly compared to the current parts (maximum 10 minutes) in order to avoid or limit marks as much as possible.
  12. Work as quickly as possible, but certainly within the practical time of use, which depends on the temperature (30 min. at +30°C and 90 min. at +10°C).
  13. Warning! The end of the DPU is not perceptible.
A flawless finish is achieved when, during application, the product is applied 'wet on wet'.

Consumption

Coating system Product Consumption per layer
On a smooth surface Sikafloor-316 + 4% (by weight)
Spheriglass 75 - 150 μm
approx. 0.07 - 0.08 kg/m²
On a sprinkled surface Sikafloor-316 + 4% (by weight)
Spheriglass 75 - 150 μm
approx. 0.1 - 0.12 kg/m²

Lower consumption can cause roller marks, differences in gloss, and an irregular surface structure.
Higher consumption results in water retention.

Packaging

5 kg A+B kit, colorless.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does Sikafloor-316 yellow over time?
No, thanks to its aliphatic formulation, it offers excellent UV stability, unlike aromatic resins.
  2. Can it be applied to raw concrete?
Not directly. The 316 is a sealant, not a primer. It must be applied over an existing Sikafloor system (epoxy, PU, decorative, etc.).
  3. Can it be used as a non-slip finish?
Yes, by adding a fine aggregate (such as Sika Quartz F or an anti-slip additive), a secure finish can be obtained.
  4. What is the drying time before circulation?
Pedestrian traffic: 24 hours. Light traffic or trolleys: 48–72 hours. Full curing: 7 days.
  5. Is it compatible with decorative flooring?
Yes, that's one of its main uses: flakes, glitter, colored quartz, microchips, decorative epoxy systems…
  6. Can it be used outdoors?
Technically yes, thanks to its UV resistance, but adhesion and durability must be confirmed depending on the underlying system. Sika primarily recommends interior use.
  7. What is its lifespan?
Under normal use, a Sikafloor-316 seal can last 5 to 10 years before renovation, depending on the stress.
  8. How to maintain a floor protected by 316?
Clean regularly with warm water and mild detergent. Avoid highly acidic or alkaline products. Do not use abrasive metal equipment.
