InsulWood - Acoustic underlay for wood floors - Insulco

InsulWood is a thin acoustic insulation for new construction and renovations in timber frame structures .

This underlayment combats impact and airborne noise between floors.

InsulWood offers various implementation possibilities, some of which allow compliance with current acoustic standards even for insulation between apartments on lightweight structures .

With a lightweight structure, it is very difficult to meet the current acoustic standard (NBN S01-400-1).

However, the same requirements must be met in wooden constructions as in constructions with a concrete structure.

These have the advantage of a much greater mass which helps to improve sound insulation.

Composition :

InsulWood consists of a high-density polyethylene film laminated onto a physically cross-linked, closed-cell polyolefin acoustic foam, assembled onto a resilient acoustic felt.

The overlap seal provides an airtight seal , which helps to reduce airborne noise.

Benefits :

  • High performance in impact noise reduction.
  • Improvement of airborne noise insulation through the mass-spring-mass principle.
  • High-density film with self-adhesive, waterproof side seal to reduce airborne noise.
  • Integrated slim flap (± 5 cm), no loss of m².
  • Thin, only ≥ 7 mm.
  • Supplied in a roll for easy and quick installation.
  • Easy to reattach to the baseboard to avoid lateral contact.
  • Very strong and smooth structure. During installation, the panels slide easily onto it.

Applications:

InsulWood for lightweight wooden structures
Lightweight wooden structure:
InsulWood can be placed on an existing wooden floor or on a new OSB floor.
InsulWood for lightweight dry screed
Lightweight dry screed:
InsulWood can be placed under a dry screed (rigid floating panels) so that, for example, tiles can be glued on.
InsulWood for flooring with suspended ceilings
Floor with false ceiling:
A layer of fibrous insulation between the joists improves thermal and acoustic comfort.

Features :

  • Materials: PE-HD film, Acoustic polyolefin, Acoustic polyester felt.
  • Thickness: ≥7 mm (under 500 Pa).
  • Colors: Black (PE-HD film) / Grey (foam) / Black (felt).
  • Dynamic stiffness: s't = 5 MN/m³ (EN 29052-1).
  • Mechanical resistance: 425 / 630 kPa.
  • Compression: ±15% under 2 kPa (tolerance 10%).
  • Elongation: 140%.
  • Roll: 20 m x 1 m.
  • Weight: ±650 g/m².
  • Cover: Thin self-adhesive flap (±5 cm).

Attention :

  • For logistical reasons, orders that are too small or too light may be declined. Generally, the minimum order is 20m², but we are open to discussing smaller orders.
  • All orders with logistical problems or insufficient quantities can be picked up directly by the customer. :-)

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is this underlay compatible with all types of parquet flooring?
InsulWood is compatible with most floating floors, laminate flooring, and some solid wood floors. It is recommended to check the flooring manufacturer's recommendations.
  2. Can it be used on an old wooden floor?
Yes, InsulWood is specifically designed for wooden floors, including older structures. The only requirement is that the subfloor be stable, clean, and dry.
  3. What is the level of sound reduction?
Depending on the version, attenuation can reach up to -20 dB. For projects requiring certified results, request Insulco acoustic reports.
  4. Is the underlay compatible with underfloor heating?
Some versions are compatible, particularly models with low thermal resistance. Check the technical specifications or contact us for confirmation.
  5. How is InsulWood divided?
The undercoat can be easily cut with a utility knife. It is lightweight and easy to handle.
  6. Can a vinyl or PVC covering be installed on top of it?
It depends on the final product: some vinyls require a specific underlay. InsulWood is primarily designed for parquet and wood flooring.
  7. Is it moisture resistant?
InsulWood is not designed as a moisture barrier. If the substrate is damp, a suitable vapor barrier membrane must be installed.
  8. Are there different thicknesses available?
Yes, Insulco offers several variations to adapt the acoustic or mechanical performance according to the project.
  9. Should an expansion joint be left?
Yes, as with any flooring system, it is necessary to respect the perimeter joints recommended by the parquet manufacturer.
