Fiberglass mat - Fiberglass fabric for bodywork - Soudal

The fiberglass fabric (non-woven) is used with polyester resin (Poly Liquid), or also in combination with the repair kit (Polyset).
It reinforces heavily damaged surfaces, and even allows for the complete repair of bodywork parts.

Applications:

• Repairs to surfaces made of metal, polyester and wood.
• Repairing small holes and dents in car body parts.
• Replace or reinforce rusted parts.
• Extensive damage to boats, surfboards, etc.

Instructions for use:

1. When using with Poly Liquid, cut the mat to the correct dimensions, with an overlap of approximately 3 cm on all sides.
2. Fray the overlapping edges to achieve a gradual transition.
3. Mix the desired amount of Poly Liquid with 2 to 4% of hardener in the provided cup, so as to obtain a homogeneous mixture without color differences.
4. Apply some of the mixture to the surface using a brush.
5. Soak the fiberglass mat and press it firmly against the support.
6. Repeat the process after the previous layer has dried, in order to obtain greater robustness.
7. Ensure that each successive mast is 1 cm larger.
8. After hardening, sand with very coarse emery paper or with a sander.
9. For a good finish, apply another thin layer of Metal Plastic.
10. Cleaning product: Acetone

1. What is the difference between a fiberglass fabric and a fiberglass mat?
   Chopped strand fiberglass mat is composed of randomly cut fibers, providing uniform reinforcement. Fiberglass cloth is woven with oriented fibers, offering higher strength but less flexibility. Mat is therefore ideal for quick and versatile repairs.
2. Can Fiberglass Mat be used with epoxy resin?
   No, this product is optimized for polyester resins. The fibers are bonded with an agent that dissolves in polyester, but not in epoxy.
3. Is the product suitable for repairing a cracked bumper?
   Yes, on rigid bumpers (ABS, polyester, etc.). For flexible bumpers, use a kit specifically designed for flexible plastics.
4. Can you paint directly on it?
   After it has fully hardened, it must be sanded and a filler applied if necessary before painting. This ensures a smooth, professional finish.
5. How many coats should be applied?
   Depending on the repair, 1 to 2 layers to fill a small hole, 3 to 4 layers for a structural repair or reinforcement.
6. Can fiberglass mat be used outdoors?
   Yes, once coated with polyester resin and protected by paint or gelcoat, it is perfectly weatherproof.
7. Can it be cut easily?
   Yes, it can be cut with scissors or a cutter, even into small shapes.
