Instructions for use:

1. Preparation :
   • Do not apply in confined spaces. It is important to ventilate the areas well during application and curing.
   • The surfaces must be solid, clean, dust-free and grease-free.
   • If necessary, degrease with Parasilico Cleaner , MEK, alcohol or ethanol.
   • The user must ensure that the product used is suitable for their intended purpose. If necessary, contact our technical support.
   • Remove standing water, water film or droplets. Best adhesion is achieved on dry surfaces, but the surface does not need to be completely dry.
2. Primary schools:
   
   • On absorbent materials, Hybrid & PU Primer (transparent or black, drying time approx. 15 min.) is recommended.
3. Laid :
   • Do not apply in confined spaces. It is important to ventilate the area well during application and vulcanization.
   • As an adhesive: Apply Parabond Construction by extruding a bead or dots onto the substrate or the element to be bonded. The beads should be applied in vertical strips. Apply the beads parallel to each other (this allows the humidity in the air between the beads to cure the adhesive). Assemble the materials as quickly as possible (within 10 minutes), depending on the temperature and relative humidity. Adjustments are possible. Clamp firmly or tap lightly with a mallet. Achieve a thickness of 3.2 mm between the two surfaces (using spacers or double-sided tape) to ensure the adhesive can withstand dimensional changes (this is important for outdoor use or in high humidity). If the adhesive layer needs to withstand minor movement between building elements, a thinner layer (minimum 1.5 mm) is sufficient (e.g., for indoor applications).
   • As a jointing compound: Shallow joints should be covered (on the floor) with an adhesive or joint backer rod to prevent three-sided joints. The depth of the expansion joint should be 2/3 of its width. Excessively deep joints should be filled with joint backer rods (PU or PE). Floor joints require a stable PU joint backer rod. For floor joints (with high mechanical loads), Parabond Construction should be applied deeper than the floor itself.
4. Joint dimensions:
   • Allowable joint widths from 5 mm to 50 mm
   • For joints up to 10 mm wide: the joint depth must be equal to the joint width. For joints wider than 10 mm: the joint depth = (joint width/3) + 6 mm
   • The required width of an expansion joint depends on temperature changes, material properties, and the dimensions of the building elements.
5. Smoothing:
   • Smooth before skin formation with Perfect Joint Tooling Smoothing Agent Liquid and/or with the Perfect Joint Tool Smoothing Palette
6. Cleaning:
   • If necessary, smooth any excess glue that appears on the edges with a spatula. Remove any fresh glue residue with Parasilico Cleaner , Multi-Purpose Super Cleaner or Cleaning Wipes .
   • After hardening, mechanically remove the hardened elements.
7. Paint :
   • Can be painted after curing with most water-based and solvent-based paints. Curing time depends on the dimensions of the joint.
   • After 48 hours, the surface must first be cleaned before it can be painted.
   • Given the wide variety of paint types available, it is recommended to test the compatibility between the sealant and the paint beforehand.
   • By using alkyd-based paints, the drying time can be extended.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between Parabond and conventional silicone?
   Parabond Construction is an MS polymer sealant that provides both strong bonding and an elastic seal. It adheres to more materials than silicone, is more mechanically resistant, and can be painted.
2. Can it be used outdoors?
   Yes, the product is perfectly resistant to UV rays, weathering and temperature variations.
3. Does it adhere to damp surfaces?
   Yes, it adheres to slightly damp surfaces, but avoid standing water or saturated surfaces.
4. Can natural stone be glued?
   Yes, Parabond Construction does not cause oil migration stains, so it is suitable for natural stone.
5. Can this product replace a mechanical fastener?
   In some cases yes, thanks to its high adhesion and strong resistance, but for heavy loads or load-bearing structures, mechanical fixing remains mandatory.
6. Is it compatible with water-based paints?
   Yes, it can be recoated with most paints, but a test is recommended to avoid shrinkage or cracking.
7. What is the complete drying time?
   The curing rate is 2 to 3 mm per 24 hours. For effective bonding, 24 hours is sufficient, but complete polymerization can take several days depending on the thickness.
8. Can it be used in a healthcare setting?
   Yes, but it doesn't contain a fungicide additive. For showers and very humid areas, DL Chemicals offers specific products (MS sanitary polymers).
9. Do we need a primary school?
   In most cases, no. Parabond adheres very well without a primer, except on certain specific plastics (polypropylene, polyethylene → not compatible).
10. Can it be used to glue mirrors?
    Not for delicate mirrors, as a specific mirror product is recommended. Use Parabond Mirror or a specially designed sealant.
