Riser and footbridge grid

Infiltration pipe

The body of the ACO Self Gully infiltration sump is made of black HDPE and has an internal diameter of 200 mm.

The HDPE waste basket fits perfectly and rests on the inside of the riser, just below the walkway grate.

The actual infiltration pipe has a height of 537.5 mm and the integrated riser brings the total height to 578.5 mm.

Below, the round body is closed by a black ABS cover. This cover can be removed to significantly increase its infiltration capacity into the soil.

The infiltration pipe has a collection capacity of 11 liters. Special infiltration slots in the body ensure that the collected water infiltrates the soil.

Laying or reinstalling drainage pipes with a sufficient slope is unnecessary.

Facility

The infiltration sump is very simple to integrate and use .

A hole is dug to a depth of approximately 60 cm and the infiltration sump is placed in it.

If it is placed next to a wall, the top is laid with the tiles just below the water retention line of the house in order to prevent rising damp in the wall.

Coarse or white sand is then placed all around the body .

In clayey areas, it is advisable to lay an additional layer of gravel.

Next, simply lay a layer of stabilized sand or a bed of mortar, which is then neatly applied against the raised edge of the infiltration sump.

Create a bed of gravel as a base if the bottom cover is removed.

1. What is its purpose? (How it works)

1. What is the difference between this Gully and a classic courtyard siphon?
A standard yard drain is used to carry water to the sewer system via a pipe. The ACO Gully is a soakaway (or soakaway): it collects water and releases it directly into the ground through its perforated body. It requires no connection to the sewer system.

2. In what cases should I install this product?
It is ideal if you have areas where there is a downspout collecting a small roof area or where water stagnates (persistent puddles) in your garden, on a terrace or near a driveway, at the foot of a tap,... and it is impossible or too expensive to run pipes to the sewer.

3. What roof or ground surface area can it drain?
This depends on the type of soil you have. The retention capacity is approximately 11 liters. On average, one ACO Gully is sufficient to drain about 10 to 20 m² of impermeable surface with a rainfall of approximately 1-2 liters/m². For larger areas, we recommend installing several spaced units.

4. Can a downspout be connected to it?
Yes, absolutely. You can direct a downspout from a small area (garage roof, garden shed, veranda) above the grate so that the water infiltrates directly into the ground.

5. Is the installation difficult for an individual?
No, it's a "ready-to-install" product. Simply dig a hole to the correct dimensions (approximately 60-70 cm deep), place the Gully in it, and backfill. No plumbing, no glue, no sealant.

6. Should gravel be put around it?
This is highly recommended. To optimize infiltration and prevent soil from clogging the holes, surround the outside of the "hole" with geotextile, place the Gully in position, and fill the surrounding space with drainage gravel. This increases the retention volume and the infiltration surface area.

7. Can the height be adjusted?
Yes, the body can be cut down if necessary, but be careful not to reduce the water storage capacity (buffer volume) too much.

8. Does this system work in clay soil?
If your soil is very clayey (impermeable), infiltration will be slower. We recommend digging a wider hole or trench and creating a substantial gravel bed (with geotextile) under the Gully to increase absorption capacity.

9. Can you drive over it with a car?
No. This model is classified A15 (pedestrian and cycle zones). For vehicle traffic, a road-connected range must be chosen (direct infiltration under the road is not recommended).

10. Does the grill rust?
The grill is made of cast iron . It will naturally oxidize on the surface and turn brown. This is a natural protective process for the material and does not affect its strength.

11. Is it susceptible to frost?
The body is made of HDPE, which is frost-resistant. As long as the water drains properly and doesn't stagnate in the casing during the winter, there is no risk.

12. How do I clean the sump?
Lift the grate, empty the removable waste basket (sludge bucket) and rinse. This should be done 2 to 3 times a year.

13. Is there a risk of odor?
No, because it's not connected to the sewer system. Therefore, there's no sewage odor rising up.
