SikaCeram-500 Ceralastic - Flexible reinforced mortar - Sika

SikaCeram-500 Ceralastic is a one-component, polymer-modified, highly deformable, alkali- resistant , synthetic fiber reinforced adhesive mortar with waterproofing and concrete protection properties.
The product can also be used for spot bonding insulation panels.

Application areas

Adhesive mortar for:

• All types of ceramic tiles, including large porcelain stoneware

• Covering old tiles indoors
• High performance and high stress applications such as: swimming pools, facades, terraces on land
• Spot bonding of insulation panels

Sealing mortar (before application of adhesive mortar and tiles) for:

• Swimming pools, terraces on land, bathrooms, showers, before application of ceramic tiles laid with adhesive mortar

Concrete protection mortar for:

• Cisterns/tanks, and against de-icing salts (chlorides) and concrete degradation by carbon dioxide (CO2)

Application

1. Pour the required amount of clear cold water into a suitable mixing tank.
2. While mixing slowly add the SikaCeram-500 Ceralastic powder to the water and mix at low speed (~500 rpm) using an electric mixer until a homogeneous, lump-free mixture is obtained.
3. Avoid air entrainment due to mixing too long and too quickly.
4. Let the mixture sit for 2-3 minutes before resuming mixing for 30 seconds.
5. The final mixture should have a creamy consistency, solid color and be easy to apply and spread.

Consumption

Adhesive mortar:

Consumption is a function of the surface profile and the roughness of the substrate, the size of the tiles and the laying technique (gluing on one side or double-sided).
As an indication, in kilograms of powder per m²:

• Small tiles/8 mm square notched trowel: ~ 2.5 kg/m²
• Normal tiles/10 mm square notched trowel: ~ 3 kg/m²
• Large tiles/15 mm half-moon notched trowel: ~ 6.5 kg/m²

Waterproofing and protection of concrete:

~1.2 kg/m2 per mm of thickness.
