SikaSil-Pool - Neutral silicone sealant for swimming pools and wet areas - Sika

Sikasil-Pool is a mono-component neutral silicone sealant for use in swimming pools and permanently wet areas.

Application areas

Sikasil-Pool is recommended for joints in and around swimming pools, joints in permanent immersion and frequently wet areas such as showers in sports and leisure halls, between ceramics, tiles, concrete, glass, metals and other supports frequently used in construction .

Application

1. The substrate must be clean, dry, structurally sound, homogeneous, and free of oil, grease, dust and friable or poorly adhering particles.
2. Sikasil Pool has good adhesion without primers/activators.
3. However, for optimum adhesion and critical high performance applications such as multi-storey buildings, high voltage joints, exposure to extreme weather conditions or water immersion situations, primers and/or activator products should be used:

Non-porous substrates:

• Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, glass, galvanized steel, powder coated metals or earthenware tiles should be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika Aktivator-205 using a clean rag.
  Wait at least 15 minutes (max. 6 hours) before applying the putty.
• Other metals such as copper, brass and zinc-titanium should also be cleaned and pre-treated with a clean cloth soaked in Sika Aktivator-205.
  After the required evaporation time, apply a layer of Sika Primer-3 N using a brush.
  Then wait at least 30 minutes (max. 8 hours) before applying the sealant in the joints.
• PVC should be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika Primer-215 using a brush.
  Wait at least 30 minutes (max. 8 hours) before applying the putty.

Porous substrates:

• Apply with a brush the Sika Primer-3 N primer on concrete, cellular concrete, cementing, mortar and bricks.
  Wait at least 30 minutes (max. 8 hours) before applying the putty.

Please note: primers improve adhesion.
However, they do not replace careful cleaning of the support and do not considerably improve its tensile strength/cohesion.
