SikaFlex-1A Plus - PU caulking and expansion joint sealant - Sika

Sikaflex-1A PLUS is a single-component elastic sealant with a low modulus of elasticity, polymerizing with humidity in the air.

Application areas

Sikaflex-1A PLUS is developed for elastic jointing and sealing of movement and connection joints in the building envelope.
Due to its very low modulus of elasticity, Sikaflex-1A PLUS is also suitable for use with facade insulation systems (ETICS).

Application

1. The support must be clean and dry, sound, homogeneous, free of oil, grease, dust and friable or loose particles.
2. Sikaflex-1A PLUS adheres without the use of primers or activators.
3. However, for optimum adhesion and critical high performance applications such as working on multi-storey buildings, for high stress joints or where exposed to extreme weather conditions or water immersion, it should be use the following primers and/or proceed with the following preparation procedures.

Non-porous substrates:

• Aluminum, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, powder coated metals or ceramic tiles should be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika Aktivator-205 using a clean cloth .
  Maintain an evaporation time of at least 15 minutes (maximum 6 hours) before applying the mastic.
• All other metal surfaces such as copper, brass and titanium zinc should also be cleaned and pre-treated with Sika Aktivator-205 using a clean cloth.
  After an evaporation time of at least 15 minutes, apply a coat of Sika Primer-3 N using a brush.
  Maintain an evaporation time of at least 30 minutes (maximum 8 hours) before applying the mastic.
• The PVC must be cleaned and then pre-treated with Sika Primer-215 using a brush.
  Maintain an evaporation time of at least 30 minutes (maximum 8 hours) before applying the mastic.

Porous substrates:

• On concrete, aerated concrete, cementing, mortars and bricks, apply Sika Primer-3 N with a brush.
  Maintain an evaporation time of at least 30 minutes (maximum 8 hours) before applying the mastic.

Important Note: Primers are adhesion improvers.
They do not in any way replace careful cleaning of the support, nor do they significantly improve the cohesion of the support.

Consumption

The dimension of the joint must be calculated in order to be able to absorb the movement capacity of the mastic.
In general, the width of the joint should be > 10mm and < 40 mm.
A width:depth ratio of ~2:1 must be respected.
